Born in Tbilisi, Georgian Sophie Gordeladze studied piano and singing at the V. Sarajishvili State Conservatory in her hometown. At the age of 18 she had already won several national competitions and was soon able to win around 10 international competitions, including the Bellini Singing Competition, Buil-Buil, Araggall, Magda Olivero, F.Labo, Giacomotti and Tagliavini.

After master classes with Mirella Freni and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Sophie Gordeladze continued her studies in 2007-2009 with Mirella Freni in CUBEC (Vignola, Italy). She received further artistic impulses in master classes with Grace Bumbry, Francisco Araiza, Lella Cuberli, Maria Luisa Cioni, Mariella Devia and Bianca Maria Casoni.

The young soprano made her opera debut at the Tbilisi Conservatory as Norina (Donizetti: “Don Pasquale”), after which she was invited to the Tbilisi Opera House for the soprano part in Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”, as Polissena in Haendel’s “Radamisto”, as Ismene/”Mitridate, re di Ponto”, Gilda/”Rigoletto”. She made her European debut in 2010 as Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s “La traviata” at the opera festival in Gars am Kamp (Austria), a role she also sang in Seoul in the same year.

Further engagements soon led her to the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova with roles such as Papagena in Mozart’s “Magic Flute”, Lauretta in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” and Serafina in Donizetti’s “Il campanello” and to the Grand Théâtre de Genève as Musetta in Puccini’s “La bohème”, where she subsequently became a member of the “Troupe des jeunes solistes en residence”.

In the following years she made her debut at the Chicago Opera Theatre as Liusia in Shostakovich’s “Moscow, Cheriomushki” and returned to the Busan Opera in South Korea as Gilda in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” for the opera festival in Gars am Kamp and as Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s “La traviata”. In 2013 Alberto Zedda invited Sophie Gordeladze to “Il viaggio a Reims” at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro (Italy) for the first time. Since 2013 she has also been a regular guest at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl, where she made her debut as Susanna in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” at the opening of the new Winter-Festspielhaus. Further engagements as Zerlina (“Don Giovanni”), Despina (“Così fan tutte”), Violetta (“La traviata”), Gilda (“Rigoletto”), Abigaille (“Nabucco”) and as Pamina in “The Magic Flute” were equally enthusiastically received by the public and the press.

Sophie Gordeladze also made a name for herself as a concert singer, among others with Handel’s “Alexander Festival” in Vilnius, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the Great Festival Hall in Salzburg, “Carmina Burana” or the St. John Passion in Lübeck.

Among the conductors and directors with whom Sophie Gordeladze has worked are Daniele Abbado, Volker Boehm, Diego Croveti, VJ.-M.Curti, Mike Donahue, Valerio Galli, Sascha Goetzel, Ivo Guerra, Gustav Kuhn, Florian Krumpöck, V. Machavariani, Gianluca Marciano, Rolando Panerai, Alexander Platt, Whithney Reader, Mario Venzago, Johannes Wildner and others.

Recent highlights include a new production of “La traviata” in León/Mexico, Gilda (“Rigoletto”) at the Grand Théatre de Genève, her role debut as Rosalinde (“The Bat”) in a concert version with the Orchestre de Lyon, Zerlina at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa (Italy). During the 2016/17 season she appeared at the Wexford Festival and gave her role debuts as Contessa (“Le nozze di Figaro”), as 1st lady (“Die Zauberflöte”) and as Marguerite (“Faust”) at the Konzert Theater Bern.

In 2017/18 she had great success with the soprano part in “Ein deutsches Requiem” by Johannes Brahms in Parma, with the role of Gabriele in Othmar Schöck’s “Schloss Dürande” under Mario Venzago in Bern, as well as Elettra in Mozart’s “Idomeneo” and Rossini Stabat Mater at the Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon. Recent and future highlights include the role of Berenice in Rossini’s “L’occasione fa il ladro” , a scenic production of “Schloss Dürande” at the State Theatre of Meiningen, the role of Emma in Schubert’s Fierrabras at the Konzert Theater Bern, as well as Mathilde in “Guillaume Tell” again Festival in Erl.
