“The best possible ambassador for the European Union” Jean-Claude Juncker, former President of the EU Commission The European Union Youth Orchestra is one of the world’s pre-eminent symphony orchestras. Its 120 young musicians, aged 16-26 from all 27 EU countries, are selected annually from more than 2500 candidates. At the end of 2022, the Orchestra was proud to announce its new home in Grafenegg, supported by the Governments of Lower Austria and the Federal Republic of Austria. The Orchestra has worked with many of the world’s greatest musicians, from Founding Music Director Claudio Abbado to current Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko. It has appeared many hundreds of times across five continents, including at the BBC Proms, Carnegie Hall, and Vienna’s Musikverein. Recent projects include the Frontrunners online learning hub, the Peace in Europe concert series, Music Hub Austria, and Café Bauhaus, all innovative programmes relating to important current issues in society. The EUYO is supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme and the 27 EU Member States.
