To whom it may concern,

The Macedonian Philharmonic brings inherently to every new season a unique sound landscape, new soloists and conductors, performances of capital symphonic works that leave a permanent mark in the prolific treasure of our institution.

The 2024/2025 season has a special place in that treasure since it is the year when the Macedonian Philharmonics is celebrating its 80th birthday, an oldest cultural institution in our country. It was established on 24 November 1944 година, only 11 days after the liberation of Skopje, at the initiative of Macedonian composer Todor Skalovski, The Macedonian Philharmonics has developed its history for eight decades through generations of musicians who have incorporated themselves with their work in the creation of the elementary sound foundation.

It is not accidental that the new season is named “Odyssey.” The symbolism permeated in Homer’s poem and the title of this capital literature work is a perfect illustration of the eighty-year path treaded by our institution. From an orchestra that shyly and insecurely stepped on the surface of the score, the Macedonian Philharmonics has developed into an orchestra with compact and determined sonority.

In the past eighty years, we have born witness to an interesting journey filled with music adventures and challenges that have not distanced us from the essence; oppositely, they have got us even closer to the essence, to the elementary essence of the symphonic music. The challenges have made us stronger, more resilient to winds trying sometimes to distance us from our music harbour.

With love and pride, we are announcing the new birthday season, the music “Odyssey“ where you will hear superb foreign and Macedonian solo players, masterpieces in the symphonism, concert music and premiere performances of works by domestic music authors.

We are translating eighty years of love to a thrilling music “Odyssey“ – a journey that will bring new audio adventures and challenges.
